# Vocal reverb choice

Do you have any guiding principles about when you would choose one reverb type (plate, chamber, hall, etc) for lead vocal? For instance would you generally use different types of reverbs for different styles of music, upbeat vs ballad, etc.?

I usually have no preconceived notion about reverb. I have several types ready in my mix template at all times and I just select one to hear how it fits. I’ll change if it doesn’t. There might be clues in the track which will guide me to a spring to start or a virtual chamber, like the song wants to have a retro vibe to it. t
