Hi Tom,
Many thanks for doing this Q&A.
Do you have any thoughts or tips about finding the right lead vocal level? I’ve been mixing professionally a long time, about 15 years, and yet I still find myself going round and round in circles setting lead vocal levels and subsequently wasting quite a lot of time. I’ll think it’s all good then 30min later find it’s 2dB loud and kind of go round in a loop turning them up and down. I get there in the end but it always seems like a bit of a struggle.
I don’t have much of an issue in dense choruses etc, it’s sparse verses, especially with a soft vocal where I find there to be such a range where it will work, and the vocal level that sounds good seems largely dependant on playback level.
Thanks!
