Gain Staging before plugins

Whats your gain set at before any plugins?? I can get the -1 on shadow hills but would like to know what your set at before going into any plugins? Is it -15?

It Varies from song to song. I really only start paying attention to level once it hits the Shadow Hills, Iā€™m not looking at meters before that. I know that piece of gear so well that with the settings I have it at, I know that Im as loud as I need to be
