Hi Jon, thanks for doing this! Love your work.
More of a general question, how would you describe your ‘style’ of mixing and how does it differ from other top industry professionals?
I have some ideas but I’d like to hear it directly from you as my ideas may be incomplete/inaccurate.
Warmest,
Hi! I’m more curious how you would describe it to be honest. I feel like my approach is simply intuitive, which I’m not sure differs that much from other professionals. That being said, I don’t really have a specific way I approach every song. Each song gets its own first move which will send me down a path. I tend to do a 45 minute “sprint” down that path and see where I land. I might like it, or I might start over. Stylistically speaking I’ve spent the last year divorcing myself from any style. I think the Billie Eilish album sounds very different than the Camilla Cabello album, which sounds completely different to the Aaron Frazer album. My style is maybe thicker and warmer than some of my other colleagues, but I’d say that’s becoming less and less of a differentiator at this point in my career. Ok, you go now!
