Phase invert and the cone of the speakers

I heard a technique from someone. He says that when you look at the initial position of the 808/kicks wave file; if the wave starts at the bottom, you flip the phase to make it start upwards. This way the cone of the speakers push it further not inward. He says it creates so much punch. What is your stand on it?
