Speakers farting

Hello J !

I incorporated a lot of your workflow philosophy and incredible tricks… and it improved my mixes so much, making me looks awesome for the clients !

Sometimes it seems that I may be too « gourmand » in the low end, and I can hear distortion in the low frequencies on my speakers (ATC SCM25) : is that « the speakers farting » ?

Can you confirm that the only way to solve this is curving , soothing , compressing - and last question, do you think it can also come from the adaptative TGP limiter sometimes ?

Thank you !

Romain

We havent run into any low end issues with the adaptive limiter, but if you turn it off and it sounds better it could be that? It sounds to me like you might just be pushing into your speakers too hard and need a subwoofer to balance everthing out. I moved from my ATC25s to the ATC45s with a sub because the 25s weren’t giving me what I needed on the low end when i was turning them up. I was getting the “speakers farting” effect too

Thank you very much for your answer, J.
At least, it forces me to work more the low end for the moment… until I have a monitor upgrade so I hear and deal with the subs…
Thanks for you time again !
