What are essentials to your vocal chain in protools?

what are some plugins and techniques that are a must in your vocal chain?

Hi there,

If you watch any of my mixing videos I go through what’s in my template pretty extensively (the recent Smashing Pumpklns video would be a place to start). That mainly involves parallel compression and a few effects that are my starting point.

For the vocal tracks themselves it really depends, I’m a fan of double de-essing. Once as the first plugin on the vocal track itself and again on the vocal Aux (which is in my template). This usually gives me the control I need to de-ess the way I want without destroying things. Sometimes EQ or compression is needed and I’d say 99% of the time I use OmniChannel.

Usually I don’t need anything else, but if I do it would really be on a case by case basis.

Thanks,
Andrew
