What's On - Community Launch (1 - 7 November)

Dear MWTM Pro members,

Welcome to the community space – a meeting place for music creators from across the globe.

To celebrate the launch of this new platform, we have invited an all-star lineup of producers and engineers to lead a series of interactive discussions called Q+. These events will take place here on the forum, where you will be able to connect with these special guests and ask them questions about their work and careers.

Q+ Jaycen Joshua

Jaycen Joshua’s music career started at age 15 with MCA and Motown records. He later worked in marketing and A&R at Dreamworks and developed shows for MTV. After joining Viacom’s advertising division, he pursued his passion for mixing and honed his skills at Larrabee Recording Studios under Dave Pensado. Together, they formed the ‘Penua Project’ in 2006. Jaycen is now a top mixing engineer, collaborating with artists like Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, and many others.


Q+ Tchad Blake

Tchad Blake boasts an impressive discography, collaborating with artists like Arctic Monkeys, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, and many more. He’s a five-time Grammy winner, earning accolades for his work with Sheryl Crow, Suzanne Vega, and The Black Keys. Known for his innovative sonic textures, he often uses unconventional gear, such as wooden pipes and metal cans. While he initially pushed analog boundaries, since 2005, he’s primarily worked in Pro Tools with some guitar pedals and outboard equipment, maintaining a unique and evolving sound.


Q+ Josh Gudwin

After serving in the US Marines, Josh Gudwin pursued a career in music. He honed his skills at Full Sail, interned at Track Record, and worked as an assistant engineer at the Record Plant. Under the guidance of vocal producer Kuk Harrell, he became a respected vocal producer and mixer. Josh’s impressive credits include Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, and more. He received four Grammy nominations, one for his remix of ‘Despacito,’ showcasing his digital mixing skills. He won three Latin Grammy awards in 2017 and 2018 and secured the ‘Best Dance Recording’ Grammy in 2019 for mixing ‘Electricity’ by Silk City featuring Dua Lipa.


Q+ Catherine Marks

Catherine Marks, an internationally acclaimed Producer and Mix Engineer with over 17 years in the industry. She’s a multi-award winner, including the MPG Breakthrough Producer of the Year in 2016 and MPG Producer of the Year in 2018. Catherine’s impressive work includes Wolf Alice, St. Vincent, and The Killers, among others. She’s produced/mixed six Top 10 UK Albums and recently achieved a UK number 1 album with ‘the record’ by boygenius.


Q+ Chris Lord-Alge

Chris Lord-Alge is a music industry giant with over 1100 entries on his AllMusic credit list, working with stars like Bruce Springsteen, U2, Madonna, and more. He’s won six Grammy Awards and is known as the ‘Lord of the Mix.’ His influence is evident in the Waves ‘Chris Lord-Alge Signature series’ plugins bearing his initials, CLA. Chris achieves his signature sound using a classic SSL desk and a Sony 3348 digital tape recorder, along with Pro Tools plugins in his studio, Mix LA.


Q+ Tony Maserati

Tony Maserati is a top mix engineer with a remarkable list of credits, working with artists like Beyoncé, David Bowie, and Lady Gaga. He’s a Grammy winner and has a Waves Signature Plugin Series bearing his name. Maserati is known for his hybrid analog/digital setup, blending the best of both worlds using gear from Waves, UAD, and analog equipment like Neve and Urei. He values analog’s headroom but also mixes on the go using a portable digital setup with headphones and speakers.


Q+ Nick Launay

Nick Launay, a renowned English record producer and recording engineer, is known for his work with artists like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arcade Fire, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. He’s a sought-after producer with a successful career spanning post-punk acts like Public Image Ltd and The Birthday Party. Launay’s approach emphasizes raw sounds and mood. He’s also collaborated with artists such as Kate Bush, Talking Heads, and Grinderman. Nick splits his time between Hollywood and London, with recent work including Anna Calvi, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and mixing for IDLES.


Q+ Leslie Brathwaite

Leslie Brathwaite is a Grammy-winning mix engineer from the U.S. Virgin Islands. His journey began with a bedroom studio setup, and he honed his skills at Full Sail University. After assisting Dallas Austin at DARP Studios, he made his mark with a mix for R&B singer Monica. He’s since worked with a diverse range of artists, including Beyoncé, Eminem, and Michael Jackson, and is currently based in Atlanta.


Q+ Peter Katis

Peter Katis is a renowned engineer, mixer, and producer in the indie and alternative rock scene, working with acts like The National, Interpol, and Jónsi Birgisson of Sigur Rós. He has over 360 credits on Allmusic.com, reflecting his immense talent and popularity. Peter operates from his own studio, Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, Connecticut, equipped with a mix of analog and digital gear, creating a unique and welcoming atmosphere for his work. His extensive analog gear includes Studer consoles and tape machines, along with various outboard equipment from API, Neve, and more.


Q+ Alan Meyerson

Alan Meyerson is a renowned movie scoring mixer with over 200 IMDb credits and an extensive history in the industry. He has collaborated with top film composers like Hans Zimmer and worked on blockbuster movies such as Man of Steel and The Dark Knight. His experience also includes music mixing for artists like Bryan Ferry and New Order. Meyerson currently operates from Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions studio in Santa Monica, equipped with digital and analog gear.


Q+ Michael Brauer

Michael Brauer boasts an impressive career, collaborating with music legends like The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and Paul McCartney, as well as contemporary stars like Coldplay and John Mayer. He’s a seven-time Grammy winner, including Best Engineered Album for John Mayer’s “Battle Studies.” Brauer operates from Electric Lady Studio B in New York, known for his trademarked “Brauerize” approach, a unique blend of compression techniques. He combines analog gear with software tools, achieving a distinct sound that’s highly regarded in the industry.


Q+ Tony Hoffer

Tony Hoffer is a versatile producer and mixer known for his distinctive sound that spans genres. He started in Miami with cassette decks and later moved to Los Angeles, where he fell in love with music production. His big break was co-producing Beck’s Grammy-nominated ‘Midnite Vultures,’ leading to work with artists like Air and Phoenix. His credits include M83, Depeche Mode, and more. Tony has earned multiple Grammy, Juno, Aria, and Mercury Prize nominations and wins for his exceptional work.


Q+ Chris Gehringer

Chris Gehringer, an American mastering engineer from New Jersey, started his career at Greene Street Recording and Trutone Records. He then spent 12 years at the Hit Factory where he mastered influential rap and hip-hop records. In 2000, he joined Sterling Sound and became a partner in 2016. Throughout his remarkable career, Gehringer has worked on records by Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Drake, Avril Lavigne, and many others.
