Hi J., I have a question about your statement on not needing to check the mix in mono. In every top mix I analyze, including yours, the mid channel is exceptionally clean. Sometimes, it even seems that the side channel has been given particular care. I’ve found that focusing briefly on the mid or side channel can immediately highlight issues, thereby enhancing the stereo mix. Do you ever focus exclusively on the mid or side channel, not for mono playback, but to improve your stereo mix? Thanks a lot, man.
I’m always focusing on creating width and depth, and by effect it enhances the mid and side channels. I rarely will solo by mid-side though and work on them solo’ed.
