In the box Mixbus Chain

Hey Bainz!

I’m a big fan of your work! If you had to recreate an analog sound using only in-the-box options, how would you approach it? Could you describe a detailed mixbus chain you would use for this purpose? Wishing you continued success!:blush:

Hello Bainz and Norbert,
i’d like to join the question adding something related.

Bainz If you think hardware is essential what may be your top picks? I’m thinking from a budget point of view, as example it may be “commonly feasible” to have something like an SSL Fusion, while a Fairchild instead isn’t.

I take the chance to thank you for the possibility you gave us to see you working, really like your work and the humility you show off despite your pro-level.

Thanks.

Hey Norbert,

Thanks for the question, and I’m really sorry for the late response! When I’m working in the box, I usually try to make up for what I’d get in the analog world using plugins. The main difference I notice is in the gain staging, which needs to be approached a bit differently in the digital environment.

I love using Cersie by Acustica; it’s a great plugin for that analog feel. The new Mix Head plugin is also excellent, along with Gold Clip. I might end up using a few more plugins on my mix bus than I would if I were running an analog chain. I also always have Invisible Limiter on my chain because it adds gain in a clean, controlled way that I really like.

Thanks again, and wishing you the best in your own work!

Hey Alessandro,

Thank you so much for your message! While I don’t think gear is absolutely necessary, I’ve accumulated different pieces over the years through my journey. Starting out, I would honestly say the most important investment would be a solid, stable computer, some high-quality plugins that you really know inside out, and a reliable monitoring setup. Those would be my top recommendations.

From there, focus on tools that add real value to your workflow. Gear with digital control can save time with recalls, which is always helpful. Ultimately, invest in anything that makes your process smoother and more efficient.

Thanks again for your support and kind words!
