Howdy,
The quieter the mix, the more room there is for low end is the easy answer. The main thing is just to make sure that only the things you want are in the sub area. Sometimes things have weird low end on them that they don’t need. Don’t just high pass filter everything though! If you’re having issues, start with just the tracks you think should make up the low end (kick and bass for example). If that is working then add back in the rest of the instruments a few at a time and if the low end stops working the way you want you’ll know where the problem child is.
