How to achieve huge low end that isn't muddy

What is the best way to get super big low end that has presence and is clear, controlled and well-shaped rather than just pure muddiness? And mainly, how do you make it gel well with everything else?

My taste usually is to focus the lows and subs on the kick drum. I do it by adding a very clean low kik sample without dynamic tracking or at least minimal dynamics. I eq the bass around that with guitars, vocal and other instruments often filtering what is causing the murk. I listen to what instruments seem to “borrow” lows from the bass and or kick drum and try to carve a good space for everything. Listen and experiment. Anything goes.
