Hey Randy!
Hope you’re well. When mastering for mixers like Serban Ghenea who mix very hot and don’t leave a ton of room to work, what is your thought process? Do you ever find yourself turning those mixes down in volume? The Silk Sonic record was supposed to be pretty quiet, so there wasn’t really a proper example of this in your MWTM series.
Thank you very much!

[/quote]Hi Allstarz,
Sure, in an album context, if a song is sitting a little loud, I’ll turn it down to better match it to other songs. I have to be prepared to give a reason why I did so, but often times, once explained in context, it’s received with understanding. If it’s not, I’ll leave the level the same. For songs that come in without room for additional level, I’ll stick to EQ or imaging tweaks to enhance it if it’s needed.
Best Regards,
Randy
