Peter Gabriel’s mixes

Hi, Tchad! Cool to see and listen you again! Thank you for this amazing video! It was very helpful to see your workflow in real time.
I have a few questions:

  1. In Peter Gabriel’s Road to Joy you have changed arranging. It’s different with Spike Stent mix. How do the artists feel about such “big” changes in the arrangement?
  2. Mixing engineer - just an attendant/staff to the artist’s idea or an equal creator?
  3. What processing do you used in Playing for time orchestra, piano and bass?
  4. Do you know what mic used for Peter Gabriel’s voice recording in I/O album?
Thank you! Have a nice day!
    Regards, Vlad.
  1. Different with everyone but I usually get away with it. On Peter’s album I added toms and percussion on several songs. Others I created new parts by finding hidden tracks and editing short bits together to fit. I might only use that sending to a reverb to augment a section. Anything goes!
  2. It’s whatever you want it to be. I mix for myself first. If the artist doesn’t like it, we talk.
  3. Not sure how to answer that as there’s so much going on individually that I don’t remember at the moment. All was going through my mix buss template but without the Inflator.
  4. Not sure. May have been a Sony C800.
