Hi Mr. Scheps,
With so many variables and different styles of production, how do you achieve well-balanced mid-range frequencies? Do you listen for something specific? What helps you determine if the mid-range is too harsh or if the production lacks mid-range?
Best regards,
Chris

Hi there,
The midrange is where I spend most of my time. I try to find the frequencies on instruments that really make them “speak” and boost those so I don’t have to turn them up. For instance anywhere from 800-2k on guitars, around 700 on bass, that sort of thing. It lets you hear the instruments without making the midrange crowded, and, more importantly, without getting in the way of the vocal.
