Mixing Suede's Disintegration

Hi Andrew,

I understand you mixed Suede’s new single, Disintegration. I feel the mix is fantastic - loud, but you can hear everything clearly. I wanted to ask in terms of the choices you made: For example the rhythm guitar is louder than what I would expect it to be and yet it works so well. How did you go about making such decision? (i.e. let’s have the rhythm guitar a bit louder). I am interested in your thought process there. And to what extent did the producer or the artist have a say in it.

Would love to see a video on how that track was mixed by the way. It sounds 80s retro but also fresh at the same time.

Thanks so much,
Yannis

Hi Yannis,

So glad you like it, it was really fun mixing the record, and can’t wait for people to hear the rest!

For the first time in years, we actually all got together in a studio to finish the mixes. We spent 3 days going through exactly the kind of thing you’re asking about. I had already mixed the album and done a round of revisions, so the mixes were in a really good place before we got together. The main things we worked on were guitar arrangement/balances and vocal FX.

Great band!

Fabulous, thanks so much Andrew! MWTM team, can we get a video on this at some point? Pretty please
