This is a song I wrote and produced for my band The Wrong Car. Iâm pretty happy with it but it would for sure benefit a lot from Tony Hofferâs masterful mixing work and I would be hugely honored if this song was picked.
Man what a sweet opportunity. Tony seems like such a cool guy. My name is Noel Johnson NDJ and this is a rough mix of a brand new unreleased track, âThe Breath Oh Yes.â Itâs a song that was inspired by an ayahuasca trip in Peru. Its a pretty steady groove i suppose but with a trippy edge to it, and the bridge turns into and extended jam outro - itâs got a lot of stuff going on. Iâve got the basics in a decent spot i think, but tâs been a challenge to pull all the elements together, so it would be incredible to hear what Tony would do with it!
Submitting this track with great excitement For Tony Hoffer. I written and produced in Sonora, Mexico, the song blends organic instrumentation with detailed production work and dynamic arrangements. I handled the recording and mix, always aiming for clarity and character.
Iâd love to hear how Tony Hoffer would shape the balance and energy of this track through his perspective. Best of luck to everyone participating!
This song is called Donât and was originally written and recorded by me and my father back in 1998 using a Korg Trinity and Mini Disc 4 track. This version though is an updated recording and mix I did in November last year as gift for my father; this time using real guitars, sampled strings and choirs etc.. Although Iâm really happy with what I achieved with this 28 year old song, I love to hear what Tony would envision.
Wow, thank you for the opportunity. I am Stefania from Italy. This is a song Iâve recently written, recorded and produced. This is the main track of an EP I released in December. The concept of the sound is a reconnection with the 90âs sounds but with a more actual perspective.
Hi there. This is a track we wrote, produced, mixed and recorded ourselves. It would be amazing to hear Tony Hofferâs interpretation. The elements within this track were recorded across multiple studios in Europe, including in an abandoned swimming pool. All the best.
Iâm submitting a track called âKiss in the Dark (Night Bliss version)â by my project Spanish Prisoners. Itâs something I wrote, recorded, produced and mixed back in 2023 but havenât released until this point. Itâs a reworking of a song that was on our previous album Donât It Sting, which came out a few years ago, but this version changes the structure, adds a bunch of new elementsâharmonies, electronic drums, more guitars, etc.
Iâm quite proud of the vibe but never thought the mix was as strong as it could be, so Iâd love to hear what Tony does with it if its selected.
Thanks for the opportunity! Please find attached below a track titled âFleeting Signsâ written for my project Shadow-Line.
The song initially derives from a jam with a friend (in the context of a professional music production course we were attending) but we then developed the idea further. The intention for the verse was to have real drums imitating the sound or pattern of a drum machine whilst still retaining the character and imperfections of a real performance. Same for the guitars within the chorus, that are not exactly on the grid, in order to preserve the live feel.
This is a rough mix in the box I did longer than a year ago. I left it there whilst working on other material, but what better chance to revive it than that of having Tony Hoffer possibly creating a final mix out of it.
What I wanted from this simple song in the first place? Evoking a sort of melancholic feeling, that which is often given in life by those (fleeting) signs that may have been present throughout - in our character, our interactions etc. - but that we were too distracted taking notice of as they presented themselves, therefore retrospectively creating the feeling of missed chances.
I made this song from a place of love, since I composed it for the love of my life. I started with the bass line composition, and later I was supported by friends who helped me record the drums. The vocals and guitars were added afterward when my girlfriend told me she really liked the groove, so I decided to dedicate the creation to her.
The production process focused on giving more prominence to the bass, and I tried to make it a calm groove, because that calmness reflects my relationship. In the end, I hope it becomes a journey of love for anyone who dares to listen to it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMgEh1t3yDA
I wrote and produced this song in response to the events that were happening in Minnesota in January. Admittedly, its production was rushed in order to get it out as soon as possible so that it might serve as a rallying cry for many of the citizens of Minneapolis and the U.S. at large.
Itâs meant to be angry and in-your-face with a powerful lyrical message and a driving beat fit for a crowd. While the mix I did was serviceable, given the short amount of time I was able to spend, I feel like I left a lot of power on the table. In particular, I think those drums could cut through far better than they do.
It would be AMAZING to have a true masterâs talents put towards this track. And it would likely also show a lot of MWTM viewers/listeners how to approach their records to maximize the power of whatâs meant to be conveyed.
Either way, Iâm so grateful just to get to submit it for consideration. Thank you for giving it a listen!
I have linked a song called âOut of Love,â which I hope will be an interesting one for a mixing session. Itâs only 3 ^ 1/2 minutes long, but it divides into four distinct sections - a 90 second rock song followed by a minute long bridge jamming on a jazzy chord pattern, next comes a brief interlude of guitars with the feeling of being in a night club, and finally a piano and vocal. The lyrics explore the challenges of living a life together with another person, both the certainty and the uncertainty. Here is the Soundcloud link - Out of Love by The Innocent Bystanders
Hi Tony! Thank you so much for considering me for this opportunity. How generous of you to share your talents and experience. Iâm submitting â28 Until The End,â an unreleased track from the debut EP for my solo alt-folk artist project, Asayo. I write, perform, produce, and mix all of my Asayo releases, which has been really gratifying and a great learning experience, but this song was by far the hardest to mix because of its build from a few instruments to a pretty full arrangement by the end (vocals and background vocals, guitars, piano, wurli & organ, percussion, and live and midi strings). Did I get carried away? Maybe.
But Iâd love to learn from your process and perspective as a mixer with both technical instincts and producer sensibilities. Iâm working to build my mixing technique on top of a songwriting/production foundation, and I really connect with your hybrid approach to production (classical song-first with some atmospheric and experimental sonic elements). This track leans more classic, with the production mirroring the emotional arc, and I think the mix needs to pretty precise for the build-up to stick the landing. My goal in the mix is to keep the opening intimate and breathable, then let it fill out as the song builds so it feels expansive and powerful without getting too congested.
Also a note, the track is explicit but I have a clean version if that makes a difference.
Drum 'n bass, trumpet, quirky vocals, weird melodies and chords, comfort in awkwardness. I always work from sounds using a lot of direct input and reprinting tracks through Space Echo RE-150. I want to take the listener from a start of unearthyness and curiosity to a more meditative end. Looking forward to see Tony have some fun with it.
We are Average Friends. We have been making music for a minute and we are finally getting stuff over the finish line. Submitting our track âu know i luv uâ.
We wanted it to feel like a modern pop record with that early 2000s heart on your sleeve vibe. Looking for help on getting our vocals to sit in front of such a punchy mix.
Hello! I would be honored to have Tony mix my track. This is âMorgan le Fay,â which I plan to release under my solo artist profile SaraEllen, but the bass and guitar are performed by my husband, Ian Franzel, the other half of the duo Plaid Lion. So far the mixing is all mine. I use Albeton Live 11.
Iâm trying to go for a vibe similar to London Grammarâs cover of âNightcall,â Camille Jansenâs âBlurry Days,â or Lana del Reyâs âA&W." Iâm more of a âjazz-adjacentâ vocalist.
