Hi Jaycen, I have a question about lead vocals. I’ve been listening to productions from the past to today, and I’ve noticed that lead vocals have become more prominent in the mix. Sometimes they stand out too much, sometimes they’re so present that the instrumental fades into the background. Panning, compression and saturation are interesting tools for balancing the prominence of vocals in the mix, but do you have a trick, a tool, a philosophy or a step that you use to confidently check the level and presence of the lead vocals in the mix?
Its definitely a matter of taste, as youre right things have changed a lot over the years. If youre looking for a plugin secret, try placing a dynamic resonance suppression plugin that has an ext sidechain feature on your music bus and then feed the vocals into the sidechain input. You can sculpt your music/vocal balance using that

Thank you so much, Jaycen! I’ll give your technique a try using Soothe 2.
Take care
