Warm and thick mixes

hey Jon! I’ve noticed your mixes tend to be in the warm side of things. I like warm/thick mixes and usually go for that cause my ears want that also.

Do you have some tips to get away from harsh and digital sounding mixes? Specially when things are recorded in a home studio without really expensive preamps and so on.

Hi! We are kindred in that way it seems! I just let my ears tell me what to do. I lean more on dynamic subtraction in the upper midrange. If you go too far then it can lose too much energy so you just have to find that line. Warmer saturation styles with even order harmonics help with this as well.
